The weather was perfect for Field Day this year! The children amazed me with their wonderful team spirit and good sportsmanship! There were so many different fun games set up inside and outside the school. The water activities were among some of the favorite games. A big THANK YOU to Mr. Jordan, Mr. Powers, The PTA, and all the volunteers that made this fun filled day possible! We had special visitors from Thorton Burgess. There were 5 stations set up around the room. Each station was filled with different items, animals and activities that helped us learn many fascinating facts about reptiles and amphibians. It was a wonderful experience! Thank you PTA for sponsoring this exciting event!! The students participated in a Health Fair at SES organized by our school nurse, Gayle Tracy. Stations were set up in the gym that focused on keeping ourselves healthy and safe. Representatives from the police, fire and the Harbor Master were at the event along with local hygienists. They gave demonstrations and speeches about ways to live a healthy lifestyle. Some of my favorite photographs are the ones of the kiddos with the giant bar of soap! Students are really motivated to use their best "story telling voice" when reading to their classmates. The New England Aquarium came to visit the first grade classes at South Elementary School. They set up several tide pools around the room for the children to explore. The tide pools contained many different sea animals such as, sea stars, crabs and snails. Representatives from the aquarium shared many interesting facts about these ocean creatures. We can't wait for the warmer weather to arrive so we can explore tide pools at the beaches in this area!!
The students enjoyed getting together in the library with fourth graders from Mrs. Almeida's class. They read from some of their favorite Dr. Seuss stories, played reading games and colored pictures of Dr. Seuss characters with well-known phrases from many of his books! |
