The children did an amazing job first designing then creating squirrel proof bird feeders. They are presenting their feeders to the class and explaining how they work all this week. They need to hold bird seed and keep out the squirrels. Mrs. Powers, Gracie's aunt, visited the classroom as the construction was taking place. She was very impressed with their creative designs. :)
The children and I enjoyed having extra time in the computer lab with Mr. Albert using special virtual reality gasses. We explored our Solar System. It felt as though we were real astronauts floating by planets, our moon and the sun! We also enjoyed exploring the ocean and the inside of a volcano! It was truly an amazing experience! The children enjoyed listening to Candace Christionsen's book, The Mitten Tree. Below is a photograph of our very own mitten tree. Thank you so much for all the donations of mittens.
Several retired teachers came back to SES to read to the first graders on the Wednesday before we left on break. The children had fun pretending they were on the Polar Express as they moved from classroom to classroom and listened to many wonderful holiday and winter stories. We enjoyed hot chocolate and popcorn in our classroom as we listened to the last story of the day, The Polar Express.
When you take your first bite of a gingerbread man cookie, what part of the cookie do you enjoy first? The children enjoyed munching on gingerbread cookies and then we recorded their results on a class pictograph. The head was the most popular part in our classroom with equal votes for the arm and leg!
